Before it was rows of brick veneer, this stretch of Blacktown was poultry farms and grazing paddocks, subdivided and built out through the 1950s, 60s and 70s once the railway station gave commuters a reason to move in.

Doonside's low-lying pockets near the creek add another layer come summer. A serious thunderstorm rolling through can push more water at the old stormwater pits than they were ever sized for, and a gully that copes fine most of the year suddenly can't keep up.

None of this means every house on these streets is a ticking time bomb, and plenty of the original pipework is still doing its job fine.

It just means age and materials matter more here than in a suburb built two decades later, and it's worth knowing which category your place falls into.
